Miroslav Kriek and Fred Phillips Win at NAGA London

NGMA athletes Miroslav Kriek and Fred Phillips brought three championship belts back to Southampton after outstanding performances at NAGA London. Miro won his gi division, while Fred became champion in both gi and no-gi.

The results are a proud moment for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at New Generation Martial Arts in Woolston, Southampton. They also reflect the knowledge, time and support shared by coaches and training partners across NGMA, Xion and Ippon.

Miroslav Kriek wins NAGA London gi title

Miroslav Kriek has trained with us at NGMA since he was a white belt. Watching Miro develop from a beginner into a NAGA Gi champion makes this result particularly special for everyone who has shared the mats with him.

His progress has come from years of consistent training, hard work and a willingness to keep learning. Alongside his training at NGMA, Miro has spent a great deal of time learning under Chris Duncan-Smith at Xion. Chris and the Xion team have played an important part in his development, and we are proud to share this success with them.

Fred Phillips wins Gi and No-Gi belts

Fred Phillips delivered an exceptional performance at NAGA London, winning belts in both Gi and No-Gi. Succeeding across both formats is a major achievement and demonstrates the range and quality of his grappling.

A very special mention must go to Jeff Lawson and everyone at Ippon. Fred has completed the majority of his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training under Jeff, and these victories are a huge credit to the time, knowledge and support Jeff has invested in him.

We are proud to have Fred representing NGMA, while also giving Jeff Lawson and Ippon the full recognition they deserve for helping shape the grappler he has become.

Success built across the wider BJJ community

Martial arts journeys are rarely built in one room. Great results come from athletes being willing to learn, coaches giving their time and strong teams helping one another develop.

Congratulations to Miro and Fred on three fantastic NAGA London championship victories. Thank you to every coach and training partner at NGMA, Xion and Ippon who helped them prepare, improve and perform.

Three belts, two brilliant athletes and a very proud day for the Southampton BJJ community.

Special mention to Jake Walton

A special mention must also go to NGMA BJJ coach Jake Walton. In the build-up to NAGA London, Jake spent valuable time working closely with Miro and Fred to get them competition-ready, and the results speak for themselves.

Having competed extensively himself, Jake brings genuine knowledge of competition: not only the technical preparation, but how to win, perform under pressure and develop the right mindset when it matters.

Jake is keen to work with more competitors at NGMA, helping members who want to test themselves build the skills, confidence and preparation needed to step onto the competition mats.

This is only the beginning of the BJJ army Jake is building at NGMA.
