BEGINNER-FRIENDLY BJJ
IN SOUTHAMPTON
You do not need previous martial arts experience or a particular level of fitness to begin Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. New members train alongside helpful, experienced partners while the coach explains each technique clearly and provides suitable options for different ability levels.
BJJ uses technique, leverage and timing to control an opponent on the ground. Classes develop practical grappling skills, confidence, fitness and problem-solving through coached technique, partner drills and controlled live training. You can start with either Gi or No-Gi and try your first session before deciding what suits you.

GI AND NO-GI BJJ CLASSES
NGMA offers both Gi and No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes throughout the week. Gi training develops grips, control and traditional BJJ technique, while No-Gi focuses on movement, wrestling, positional control and submissions without the jacket.
You do not have to choose just one. Many members train in both styles, and complete beginners are welcome to start with whichever session fits their schedule. Our programme supports casual members, MMA athletes and competitors within the same friendly grappling community.

Your first session
New to martial arts? No problem. Your first class includes a warm-up, partner drills, and live rolling. Wear comfortable gym clothing and bring a bottle of water. We have equipment you can borrow for your first class, and once you’re ready, we sell everything you’ll need to get started. We strongly recommend that if you have no previous martial arts experience, you start with our Beginners Gi or NoGi class. It’s designed to give you the fundamentals in a friendly, supportive setting before you join the main sessions.
